Distracted Driving

Thank you for your interest in our Distracted Driving Study!

****The last day to participate in Part 1 of this study in the spring of 2025 is Friday, April 11th****

***PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A 3-PART STUDY*** (but only Part 2 is in-person; nevertheless all your credits count as “in-person”)

Please read the following information before signing up:

PBSI 107 students are invited to participate in a psychology study on distracted driving. This is a 3-Part study in which you can earn up to 6 Psychology subject pool credits. In addition, you will be given a small (2×3) plexiglass frame with a picture that you submit to us to place in your car to remind you to drive safe.

Requirements to participate:

  1. Valid driver’s license
  2. Drive at least once a week during the 3-week study
  3. Have a smart phone
  4. Must come to the lab the day of the simulator session (Part 2)
  5. Not participated in any previous studies using this simulator

Participation: Two parts are online and one part is in-person.

  • Part 1: Time 1 online survey completed 1 week before Part 2 (~45 min), download the Safe2Save app on your phone, and share your driving data (up to 3 credits)
  • Part 2: In-person driving simulator in PSYC 347 on the EXACT DAY and TIME you sign-up (~45 min; 2 credits)
  • Part 3: Time 3 online survey – link emailed to you 1 week after Part 2 (~20 min; 1 credit)

How to signup:

  • If you are willing to commit to all of the above activities, please proceed back to the signup page on SONA.
  • Select your preferred timeslots (required to be scheduled 7 days apart)
  • If you sign up for a Time 1 slot either TODAY or TOMORROW, please proceed to the first survey here: https://tamu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eqAiVs92PUFJYTY
  • If you select a Time 1 slot that is NOT TODAY OR TOMORROW, you will be emailed the survey link on your specified date at 8am

  • You can expect to receive your credit in 24-48 hours after completing the last survey.

FAQ

Q1: I was supposed to receive an email link but I didn’t receive it.

Check your TAMU email (not gmail), look for it to arrive in your inbox around 8am, and check your junk folder. If you still cannot locate, the links are listed above or you can email us TAMUPayneLab@gmail.com

Although SONA says links will be emailed at a specific time that corresponds to your in-person T2 time, we actually schedule all emails to go out at 8am on the designated day.

Q2: I am unable to make it to the lab to complete Part 2 due to an illness.

If you have heard by text from the research assistant (RA) who is meeting you in the lab, please inform them of your illness and they will work with you to reschedule. If you intend to complete the study, it is best NOT to cancel your timeslots in SONA.
